Idaho’s frost line in our region runs about 30 to 36 inches. Posts set shallower than that get pushed up every winter as the ground freezes and thaws. That’s why we set every post at least 36 inches deep.
What about rock?
In Boise County you’ll almost always hit rock. We drill through it rather than cutting posts short.
